So many times in life, we run into situations and circumstances that throw us. What should we
do? What’s best? Where do we find good direction? Who do we listen to?
Well, if we want to build our lives on a strong foundation, then we will try to build on the Rock
like the wise man in Matthew 7:24-27:
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a
wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and
the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a
foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came,
and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
Getting and listening to Christian counsel is building on the Rock. This counsel is advice that
strictly adheres to the teachings of Jesus and the Word of God.
Why is that important? Because the truth is that we’re pretty clueless. We don’t have any idea
what kinds of things loom in our future. New problems blindside us, but God is not surprised by
anything. He knows the end from the beginning. He promises this: “I will instruct you and teach
you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye” (Psalm 32:8).
According to His Word, if we align ourselves with Him, He will continually guide and keep us,
no matter what. In a world of fear and uncertainty, this is really good news. Next time you need
help, go to the Rock!
